CWO5 Gary Linfoot, US Army (Ret) was the guest speaker at West Creek Middle School on October 8, 2014. He was invited to talk to the school’s 7th graders by science teacher Andrea Pullin. In her initial email Mrs. Pullin stated she heard that Gary’s speaking engagement at Rossview Elementary School last year was spectacular and the staff at West Creek looked forward to his visit to their school. West Creek students are about 60-70% military. The 7th graders are studying many things regarding STEM including adaptive and assistive engineered products. She thought Gary demonstrating his adaptive equipment would be a great experience for the students.
The students enjoyed hearing Gary’s story. They listened and watched intently as he demonstrated how he uses the iBot wheelchair and Ekso Bionics exoskeleton. It seemed to be a great experience for the kids to see how math and sciences are applied to make a difference. During question and answer time, the students continued to be engaged. When asked if the exoskeleton can go upstairs, Linfoot responded “Not yet, keep studying because that’s your job. I need you to do that for me.”
