- Lt. Col. Steve Danyluk (USMC, Ret.)Lt Col. Steve “Luker” Danyluk (USMC, Ret), currently an international airline pilot, first had two ground combat tours, his last being with a twenty-eight Marine Reserve Detachment based out of West Palm Beach, FL.
Steve serves today as a distinguished advisor to Independence Corps having both served for many years in the Army and Marine Corps and having devoted years of his life after the conclusion of his military career to improving the lives of injured and ill veterans.
Steve enlisted in the Army under the Delayed Entry Program in 1980, two months after his seventeenth birthday and served for three years as a combat medic in the 82nd Airborne. Following a combat deployment during Operation Urgent Fury to Grenada, he left active service and graduated in 1988 with a degree in Humanities from the University of California, Berkeley. While attending college, Mr. Danyluk completed the Marine Corps Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in May of 1988. His foreign deployments include but are not limited to Japan, Korea, Australia, Guam, Israel, Italy, Spain and Egypt. In 2004 he served as the Operations Officer for 4th ANGLICO and participated in ground combat actions in Iraq.
Steve’s last active tour was working wounded issued in Washington DC. In 2007, Steve founded the Independence Fund, long a 100% volunteer 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing the tools, therapies and guidance to those severely injured veterans that they were not then receiving. Under Steve’s leadership, the IF successfully raised $40million and provided more than 1000 high tech all terrain wheelchairs to veterans with severe mobility disabilities.
Today Luker continues to fly internationally for the world’s largest airline and in addition to being a devoted husband and father he devotes all of his spare time to our nation’s wounded veterans.
Steve is married to the former Valerie Canfield, herself a current active duty Col in the Marine Corps. They have two fine children.
